Spring Has Arrived at Bear Valley Nursery

Spring is here and the bench is full. We've received several large shipments over the past two weeks and the greenhouse is loaded with color heading into the season. Whether you're starting fresh, refreshing containers, or finally tackling that corner of the yard, now is a great time to come in.
Here's what just arrived the last two weeks. Things are going fast so availability is not guaranteed:
Shrubs & Rhododendrons
Our shrub selection is looking great this spring. Rhododendrons are budding up beautifully and we have Anna Rose Whitney, Chionoides, Ramapo, Vulcan, Holden's Solar Flair and several others, all well-suited to Oregon Coast conditions. Pieris Japonica Glowing Hearts just arrived and is stunning with red new growth tipped with white flower clusters. We also brought in Hydrangeas, Cistus, Nandina, Spiraea Snowmound, lilacs including Miss Kim and Madame Lemoine, and Buddleia in Miss Molly and Miss Violet. For wind and salt spray tolerance, Cistus and Ceanothus are excellent choices and we have multiple varieties of both.
Perennials
The perennial benches are loaded. Lavender arrived in five varieties including Wings of Night, Madrid New Rose, and Anouk Supreme, all blooming now. We have Salvia, Monarda Jacob Kline, Penstemon, Dianthus Firewitch, Geum Sangria, Gaura, Heuchera in a beautiful range of colors, Knautia Thunder and Lightning, Brunnera Sea Heart, Scabiosa Butterfly Blue, Helleborus, Armeria in full pink bloom, and much more. Calla Lilies just arrived in a spectacular orange variety. Grasses include Nassella, Festuca Beyond Blue, Carex, Hakonechloa, and Uncinia rubra.
Annuals
The annual benches are full and colorful. Begonias in Non-Stop varieties are looking exceptional in yellow, orange, red, and pink. Osteospermum arrived in a gorgeous mix of yellow, pink, and purple daisies. We have Fuchsias, Geraniums in novelty and zonal varieties, Bacopa, Petunias including the Crazytunia Black and Frisky Orange, Impatiens Beacon Mix, Marigolds, Carnations, Stock, Nemesia, and Verbena. Limited availability on Proven Winners Supertunias that are still budding. We have many more on order coming soon. Roses arrived fresh this week in red, orange, pink, and yellow.
Vegetables, Herbs & Edibles
Now is a great time to get your kitchen garden started. Tomatoes are in including Cherokee Purple, Big Boy, 4th of July, and Sungold. Strawberries, artichokes, raspberries, and cabbages are on the bench. Herbs include rosemary, mint, thyme, basil, fennel, and chives. We also have Meyer Lemon, fig trees in Brown Turkey and Desert King, and blueberries in Peach Sorbet and Midnight Cascade, all edibles that do well in our coastal climate.
Trees & Vines
The weeping cherries are in full bloom and worth a visit just to see it. Inside we have Japanese Maples, Magnolia Galaxy, ornamental crabapples, Sword Ferns, Mugo Pines, and Pinus Thunderhead. Vines include Clematis in three varieties, Early Sensation, Pamela Jackman, and montana Rubens, all blooming now, plus Star Jasmine and Lonicera for fragrant coverage.
Hanging Baskets Are Coming
Our first shipment of 12-inch hanging baskets is arriving very soon, calibrachoa and mixed sun varieties. These go quickly every year. Follow us on Instagram @bearvalleynursery or sign up for text updates to be the first to know when they hit the floor.
